Hi, I’m Jenny Lee Corvo.

I’m an imaginative, curious, and passionate writer and artist dedicated to exploring the hidden depths of reality through my work.

With a focus on speculative fiction, personal essays on mental health, neurodivergences, and trauma, as well as narrative illustrations, drawings, and paintings, I aim to connect with the truths just below the surface and the dark depths where hope and horror reside. My ultimate goal is to create a sense of community and connection for those who, like me, find comfort and solace in these complex, yet captivating aspects of our shared human experience

Writing Style

Descriptive, Emotional, and Unapologetically Honest

I explore themes of mental illness, isolation, power dynamics, resilience, bravery, and survival in my writing. My work is influenced by the honesty and depth of writers like Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf, Anaïs Nin, Toni Morrison, and Margaret Atwood, and the creativity and imagination of authors like Neil Gaiman, Philip K. Dick, Jeff Vandermeer, Octavia Butler, and Mary Shelley.

Visual Art Style

Narrative, Surreal, and Figurative

My art primarily features people and animals interacting with each other or their environment in unusual or unexpected ways. I work with a variety of mediums including ink, pencil, acrylic paint, oil paint, and digital art. My style is influenced by the late 19th-century artists who responded to the industrial revolution with movements like Art Nouveau and Symbolism. I believe a lot of our narrative and symbolic art today is a response to living through constant technological changes

Personal Background and Creative Journey

Growing up in a rural part of Jacksonville, FL, my childhood was marked by isolation and a southern gothic atmosphere. Surrounded by poverty, seedy characters, alienation, deeply flawed religious values, and an undertone of depression and sinisterness, these experiences have shaped my work and continue to influence the themes I explore.

From a young age, I was drawn to writing and art, often illustrating bizarre and frightening scenes from my dreams. My first stories began to take shape around that time, and a particularly impactful moment came when I was 13 years old. My grandmother was brought to tears by one of my poems, not because of the content, but because of my "true gift." Her encouragement and support have stayed with me throughout my journey as a writer and artist.

Over the years, I've written and created art, but struggled to share my work. However, a breakthrough came in college when I wrote and directed a musical. The audience's enjoyment of my work made me realize that sharing it is essential to why I create. Since then, I've published numerous non-fiction essays, some of which have gained recognition on Medium.com and in podcasts. My art has been featured in museums and galleries across the southeast. My goal is to be braver and bolder with my fiction and to share the collection I've amassed over the past two decades.

As an autistic person and someone with a chronic illness, I've faced many challenges, including feelings of shame for being different and struggling to navigate social structures. However, I've learned to embrace my unique identity and perspective as a gift. I'm inspired to continue sharing my distinctive voice with the world.

When I'm not creating art or writing, I enjoy indulging in various hobbies and interests that not only relax me but also help fuel my creativity.

Here are some of the things I love to do:

  1. Reading voraciously - I love getting lost in a good book, preferably by a window where I can watch the birds.

  2. Birdwatching - Observing, talking about, and photographing birds are some of my favorite pastimes.

  3. Exploring AI and creativity - I'm fascinated by the intersection of human creativity and the potential of artificial intelligence.

  4. Playing video games - Open-world walking simulators are my favorite type of video games, as they allow me to explore and immerse myself in different environments.

  5. Engaging in intellectual challenges - Puzzles and board games that challenge me intellectually are a great way to keep my mind sharp and active.

  6. Quality time with loved ones - Snuggling up with my pets and spouse while watching TV shows with esoteric themes is the perfect way to unwind after a long day.
